Grand Hôtel & Kurhaus
The iconic Grand Hôtel & Kurhaus dates back to 1896, when the original building was opened to cater to English mountaineering explorers – including 1924 Everest pioneers Mallory and Hillary. A member of Swiss Historic Hotels, the Grand Hôtel & Kurhaus sits amidst some of the highest Alpine peaks in Europe, including the Pigne d’Arolla at an altitude of 3,796m. The hotel also overlooks the mountain village of Arolla from an altitude of 2,100m, surrounded by a magical forest of ancient arolle trees.
A comprehensive renovation of the Grand Hôtel & Kurhaus will preserve the spirit of adventure and its high-alpine, high-adrenaline surrounds, while sensitive modernisation will introduce luxury interiors and offer personalised experiences. Winter and summer sports enthusiasts can enjoy off-piste and heli-skiing coached by world-class athletes, hike with extreme expedition leaders, or simply explore and enjoy the highest unspoilt alpine terrain in Europe.
Accessible, authentic, enduring
For centuries, the Swiss Alps have nurtured and restored the health and happiness of travellers. Each year, the curative properties of this natural landscape continue to attract discerning visitors. Guests at the Grand Hôtel & Kurhaus will take in the majesty of the environment – whether on skis, by bike or foot – and take away memories of a unique, boutique, and exclusive guest experience.
